Speaker Biography
Naomi Klein
Naomi Klein is an award-winning journalist, columnist, and the international bestselling author of nine books published in over 35 languages including No Logo, The Shock Doctrine, This Changes Everything, No Is Not Enough, On Fire, and Doppelganger: A Trip into the Mirror World which won the inaugural Women’s Prize for Non-Fiction in 2024. A columnist for The Guardian and a contributor to Zeteo News, her writing has appeared in leading publications around the world. She is an honorary professor of Media and Climate at Rutgers University and an Associate Professor in Geography at UBC where she is a founding co-director of UBC’s Centre for Climate Justice.

Carol Liao
Dr. Carol Liao is an internationally respected legal expert in corporate sustainability, climate governance, and social justice. She is the UBC Sauder Distinguished Fellow of the Dhillon Centre for Business Ethics and Chair of the Canada Climate Law Initiative. She sits on the Steering Committee of the Climate Solutions Research Collective, Advisory Council of BCBusiness and Vancouver Magazine, and Solicitors’ Legal Opinions Committee of BC. She has been recognized as one of Canada’s Clean50, Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women by WXN, and Canada’s Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer. She is an Associate Professor at UBC Allard Law and co-director of UBC’s Centre for Climate Justice.
