Caught between cultures, a Musqueam-Chinese Elder comes to terms with who he is in Reconciling: A Lifelong Struggle to Belong.

For his entire life, Larry Grant has been engaged in reconciliation—with himself. Born in Vancouver to a Musqueam cultural leader and a Chinese immigrant, he and his siblings were stripped of Indigenous recognition in 1940 because his father was non-status. In conversation with writer Scott Steedman, Grant reflects on experiences shaped by residential schools, the Chinese Head Tax, and his Indigenous culture. Spanning the Musqueam reserve, Chinatown, UBC, and beyond, he offers a powerful personal exploration of heritage, belonging, and identity—with insights into the path forward for First Nations and Canada.
