Burgundy’s hallowed grape has found a distinctive home in British Columbia’s winelands. A capricious chameleon, pinot’s ability to transmit and translate site is legendary. Join us for a revealing tasting of pinot noir wines from six unique growing environments around the province. DJ Kearney (BA’84), a die-hard pinot fanatic will bring her global perspective and intimacy with BC’s pinot history as she leads us around the province with six exciting iterations:

Host Biography
Fred Lee, BA’88
Fred Lee (BA’88) is the senior director of Alumni Engagement at alumni UBC. His team leads efforts to increase engagement and build influence among UBC’s community of more than 60,000 students on two campuses, and 380,000 global alumni in more than 140 countries. The Development and Alumni Engagement portfolio launched FORWARD, the campaign for UBC, which aspires to raise over $3 billion in philanthropic support and has engaged more than 150,000 alumni. He also serves on many committees, including UBC’s CampOUT program for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth. In 2020, he received the UBC President’s Staff Award for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
Moderator Biography
DJ Kearney, BA’84
DJ Kearney is a Vancouver-based wine educator, wine writer, critic, judge, presenter, and classically trained cook. She is the Director of Wine at Vancouver’s Terminal City Club, the Vice President of CAPS-BC, and a Dame d’Escoffier. She currently teaches the WSET program at PICA, and has taught sommelier candidates for the International Sommelier Guild throughout North America. She has been an industry advisor and ambassador for BC wines, and inaugurated the Judgment of BC benchmark tasting. She received the 2019 SIPS prize at the Vancouver International Wine Festival and was one of five global nominees for WSET’s 2019 Outstanding Alumni Award.
