Student Alumni
Council
The Student Alumni Council (SAC) is a team of students dedicated to connecting students with alumni and building lifelong connections with the UBC community. Members of the SAC develop original programs, collaborate with campus partners, and promote UBC’s alumni network on campus as student representatives. The SAC is supported by alumni UBC, the university’s alumni association.

Executive Members
PRESIDENT
Ian Dominique Caguiat, Arts, 6th year
Ian is a sixth-year Political Science student passionate about storytelling, student engagement, and community building. He recently served as VP Media Production, where he led a digital strategy that reached over 1.2 million views and introduced resource-driven content for students. With 5+ years of leadership experience, he also held the role of AMS VP Administration, managing 400+ student clubs, sustainability initiatives, and Nest operations. As SAC President, Ian aims to strengthen student-alumni connections and champion student development. Beyond campus life, he enjoys watching cooking tutorials, playing board games, and catching up over happy hour.

Julia Do, Arts, 5th year
Julia is a 5th-year Political Science student with a minor in French Language. Returning to campus after two Go Global exchange semesters in Australia and France, she’s excited to bring fresh energy, creativity, and good vibes to her role as Vice-President Events. Julia is passionate about meeting new people and creating spaces where students can connect and build community at UBC. Outside of SAC, she’s involved in research at Health Canada, serves as a Campus Tours Ambassador, and is a former AUS Vice-President Internal. When not on-campus, she’s on the hunt for the best matcha and croissants around Vancouver!

Lana Navarro, Arts, 3rd year
Driven by a passion for clinical and cognitive psychology, Lana is dedicated to understanding others and building meaningful connections. Over the past two years, she has brought this commitment to life through her work in planning socials and professional development workshops on the SAC’s Internal Committee. Now, as VP Internal, she’s excited to continue fostering community, gain new perspectives, and bring people together. Outside of academics, you’ll find her sketching, painting nails, singing her favourite songs, or carefully curating the perfect outfit!

Abera Jeyamuray, Kinesiology, 5th year
Abera is in her fifth year of the multidisciplinary stream in the Kinesiology program. She values the sense of community at UBC and hopes to establish connections with students and alumni through a sociocultural lens, especially through her role as President of the Tamil Students Association once again. With a passion for digital design, she has various experiences in media coordination like working for non-profit organizations. Outside of digital design and content creation, Abera enjoys being active outdoors, cafe hopping and curating the perfect playlist.

Jessica Jiang, Arts, 4th year
After a year as a Partnerships Coordinator, Jessica is excited to step into the VP role. As a fourth year Political Science student, she is passionate about creating safe and inclusive spaces and strengthening resources for vulnerable community groups. She enjoys student leadership and meeting other like-minded individuals, working together to foster campus culture and boost school spirit. Outside of SAC, she has worked in the non-profit sector and community event planning. She is also a student ambassador, showing prospective students around campus! In her free time, she enjoys playing intramural volleyball, spending time at the beach, and baking.
Events
Parthivi Koganti, Commerce, 2nd year
Growing up in culturally rich locations, Parthivi values others’ stories and genuine connections, driving her to pursue her Bachelors in Commerce and to become involved with campus initiatives like CUS Sustainability and YNOTFORTOTS. In each case, Parthivi seeks growth and learning through conversation. Previously serving as Career Development’s First Year Representative, Parthivi returns to foster connections between UBC alumni and students as an Events Coordinator. She is excited to continue her journey with the SAC! Beyond her academic and volunteer work, she can be found playing sports, watching the latest box office hits or experimenting with editing software.
Rachna Rajavel, Science, 2nd year
As a second-year student in the Faculty of Science, Rachna is deeply committed to fostering a welcoming environment that encourages the involvement of individuals from all backgrounds, and is always eager to contribute meaningfully to campus life. With a strong passion for equity and inclusion, Rachna was thrilled to share her perspectives as a first-year representative on the Campus Engagement committee last year, and is excited to continue cultivating connections between students and alumni. Outside of school, she is often seen reading, carefully curating Pinterest boards, planning dream vacations, and spending time with family and friends!
Nargess Shokouhian, Arts, 3rd year
Nargess is a third year Sociology major and Journalism and Social Change minor. She is passionate about event planning and fostering community-forward initiatives. She is extremely grateful to have utilized this quality in her roles as VP Student Life for the AUS, in the City of North Vancouver, and at her job as a tennis coach. She looks forward to hosting a calendar of events, including longstanding SAC staples, as well as establishing new traditions. Outside of the SAC, she loves playing tennis, skiing, spending time with her friends, and taking an insane amount of photos.
Kristen Tan, Commerce, 4th year
Kristen is a Business and Computer Science student passionate about bridging tech and business. After a rewarding year on the SAC, she remains committed to fostering career development initiatives that equip students with the skills and confidence to thrive in today’s dynamic professional landscape. Outside the SAC, she previously served as IT Associate for the CUS and now serves as VP Events for YWIB UBC, where she’s excited to create impactful experiences that support student growth. She recently completed an 8-month co-op, where she deepened her interest in data and technology and saw the value of career-building opportunities.
Emmy Wang, Arts, 2nd year
Passionate about teamwork and connection, Emmy looks forward to sharing her passion through the Events committee. She hopes to begin her career in tech, eventually pivoting to software and AI law. Emmy’s love for community and technology extends to her roll as the photographer and VP Internal for UBC GetThrifty, as well as a former first year rep in Campus Engagement. Outside of school, she is often seen with her camera, getting coffee, or being with her friends. Emmy is excited for what this year’s SAC has to offer!

Jason Basnyat, Science, 4th year
Jason is a fourth‑year student from Surrey studying in Neuroscience, Genetics, and Public Health. As an active member of the UBC community his previous work includes serving as a Collegia Advisor, working as the UBC Baseball team’s Varsity Team Academic Coach, and volunteering in the Residence Hall Association. From organizing campus wide events to advocacy initiatives, Jason loves bringing people together. As a part of SAC this year, he’s very excited to craft engaging events and celebrate UBC spirit. Off campus you’ll find him hiking local trails, tossing a disc, or searching for good food spots in the Lower Mainland.
Maya Ramji, Commerce, 2nd year
Maya is a second-year commerce student who was born and raised in Vancouver. She has been actively involved in her community through youth advocacy groups and councils and is passionate about building community and making a positive impact. Outside of school, she is a certified yoga instructor and enjoys practicing yoga, baking, and going to concerts. Returning to the Student Alumni Council this year, Maya is excited to continue helping to foster meaningful connections between students and alumni and contribute to enhancing the UBC student experience.
Abby Sun, Science, 3rd year
Abby is a third-year Neuroscience student who is passionate about mentorship and student leadership. With previous experience as Internal Committee Co-Chair within the Science Undergraduate Society (SUS) and a Teaching Assistant for the Computer Science Department, she is committed to creating vibrant communities and inclusive and engaging spaces for students. Through SAC, she’s excited to grow alongside a passionate cohort and help foster meaningful connections across campus and beyond. In her free time, Abby enjoys baking, running, and exploring new cafes around the city.
Halla Zarroug, Science, 3rd year
Halla Zarroug is a UBC undergraduate science student and a proud Beyond Tomorrow Scholar. Passionate about leadership, community engagement, and creating opportunities for youth, she has served in roles such as Chair of the BGC National Youth Council and Career Development Coordinator for the UBC SAC. Halla is deeply committed to fostering meaningful student-alumni connections and has led initiatives focused on mentorship, inclusive event planning, and professional development. With aspirations in healthcare innovation, she hopes to bridge science, technology, and equity to improve outcomes for underserved communities in Canada and beyond.
Marketing & Media
Ajay Antonio, Science, 2nd year
Ajay is a second-year science student who is passionate about pediatric healthcare and immunology. Born to first generation immigrant parents, Ajay moved to Vancouver from the Philippines when he was two. Highly valuing community, he strives to use his experiences as a volunteer at BC Children’s Hospital and co-founding the Richmond Youth Advisory Committee to build bridges between UBC alumni and students. Outside of the classroom, Ajay enjoys spending time with friends and family, drawing, painting, and listening to music. As a returning member to the SAC marketing committee, he is excited to contribute positively to the SAC!
Tayla Barbosa, Arts, 2nd year
Tayla Barbosa is a second-year student hoping to major in Political Science. She is incredibly passionate about making long-term connections within her community. After being a first-year representative of the Media Production team last year, she is eager to move forward in her SAC journey and work alongside her amazing team. Tayla hopes to build greater connections to the UBC community through SAC and bring in new initiatives and ideas to foster meaningful bonds and memories for UBC students and alumni.
Charley Ng, Arts, 2nd year
Charley is a second-year arts student hoping to pursue a career in law. With experience in graphic design and social media marketing through over five years of experience as a Public Relations Executive in several clubs and her position as a Marketing Specialist at a local business, her affinity for art has remained a constant in her life. She was previously a first-year representative for UBC’s HKSA, solidifying her commitment to cultivating a sense of unity. Charley aims to create content for the SAC that bolsters connections within the UBC community (while meeting new people as well!)
Melissa Qi, Arts, 4th year
Melissa is a fourth-year student majoring in Psychology. With previous experience in the Arts Undergraduate Society and as a current member of the UBC Chinese Students’ Association, Melissa looks forward to using her experience to establish a sense of community in building and fostering new connections between students and alumni. With a love for mixed media from video editing, graphic design, and photography, Melissa is enthusiastic about joining the SAC Media Production committee. Outside school, you can catch her hiking, playing piano, trying new recipes, and listening to music!
Kim Chi Tran, Arts, 3rd year
Kim Chi is a third-year student in the Bachelor of Media Studies program with a passion for all forms of art. Whether it’s being on film and theatre sets, crocheting, or playing the bass, she deeply values creative expression and authenticity. As an international student from Vietnam, Kim Chi prioritizes making meaningful connections and creating a positive impact. She has dedicated herself to UBC communities such as Collegia, Players Club, Film Society, Sprouts, Agora Cafe, and now SAC! She is excited to bond with and learn from the media production team while creating fun and engaging content for all!
Alyssa Yang, Science, 3rd year
Alyssa’s community involvement began in Montreal, as a French tutor for immigrant youth. This experience has inspired her continued engagement at UBC. She has contributed to innovative projects as a current member of the BIOMOD design team and has helped coordinate events like the UBC Makers Market. As a former Orientation Leader, she is passionate about supporting fellow students and fostering connections across campus. Beyond academics, she enjoys dancing in the studio and reading in the sunshine. With a keen creative eye and a love for storytelling, Alyssa looks forward to creating engaging content with the SAC media team.
Partnerships
Bonnie Chen, Science, 3rd year
From the heart of Winnipeg, Bonnie is a third-year student who is passionate about advocating for a holistic student experience that embraces the rich opportunities UBC offers beyond academics. She is an active member of UBC Women in Science, Nutrikids, and CVC. Apart from the SAC, Bonnie has supported MS progression research in the Kolind Lab and serves as a First Responder at the BC Crisis Centre. In her free time, she loves learning new recipes, practicing ballet, and trying new cafes! Bonnie is excited to be returning to the SAC Partnerships team to foster connection and lasting memories for students and alumni alike.
Micah Davey, Arts, 4th year
Micah is passionate about creating meaningful experiences for UBC students. Actively involved with UBC Athletics & Recreation and the Vancouver School of Economics, he has built extensive experience in coordinating large-scale, student-focused events such as Day of the Longboat and Storm the Wall. In his previous work with the Student Alumni Council, he co-led the planning and execution of the annual Networking Night, and is now excited to continue building impactful connections with the Partnerships committee. Outside of academics, he loves trying new foods, discovering new music, and spending time at the beach!
Mehka Gnanendran, Arts, 3rd year
Mehka is a third-year student majoring in Political Science and minoring in French Language. She is passionate about student advocacy and community engagement, hoping to help build student-alumni connections across UBC. During her time at UBC, Mehka has been heavily involved in the Arts Undergraduate Society, serving as first-year representative, followed by Executive Equity Commissioner in her second year. Additionally, this year, she will be taking on the role of an Arts Peer Academic Coach. In her free time, Mehka loves to spend her time hiking, trying a new sport, or visiting a local cafe.
Aamna Mushtaq, Science, 2nd year
Aamna is a second-year Science student who first joined the Student Alumni Council as the First-Year Representative for the Internal Committee. This year, she’s excited to be part of the Campus Partnerships team and looks forward to helping create memorable experiences that connect students and alumni. When she’s not studying, Aamna can be found watching and playing sports, spending time with her family, and enjoying the outdoors.
Khasandra Margareth Parras, Commerce, 2nd year
Growing up in Surrey, where there were always events happening for national holidays, cultural holidays, and annual events like Earth Day, Khasandra developed a passion for community building, event planning, and creating spaces for connection and belonging. In the past, Khasandra pursued her passions with TEDxUBC as a Finance Associate. Moving forward, Khasandra is excited to contribute to the UBC community with the SAC through strengthening school spirit and supporting other groups on campus. In her free time, she can be found out on runs, adventuring with friends, or trying new recipes
Deborah Yan, Arts, 3rd year
Born and raised in Vancouver, Deborah is a political science student passionate about law, ethics, and mentorship. Having volunteered across the Lower Mainland at immigration centres, food banks, and neighbourhood associations, she’s excited to bring her community-building skills to the SAC. Off campus, Deborah loves going to the gym, learning about neuroscience, and being a tourist in her own city. She looks forward to working with the SAC team to build meaningful relationships, strengthen student engagement, and leave a lasting impact on campus life.
