Moderator Biography
Kathryn Gretsinger, MJ’06
Kathryn Gretsinger is an associate professor of teaching at the School of Journalism, Writing, and Media. She is a long time public broadcaster at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, with a record of creating award-winning work at the local and national level in Canada. Kathryn is also a Killam Teaching Prize winner and she was named as one of North America’s top innovative journalism educators in 2018.

Dr. Wendy H. Wong
Dr. Wendy H. Wong is a Political Science professor and Principal’s Research Chair at UBC. She is an international relations scholar with expertise in global governance, human rights, civil society, and AI/Big Data. She is the author of We, the Data: Human Rights in the Digital Age (MIT Press), which made the 2024 Lionel Gelber Prize shortlist and the Journal of Democracy’s 2023 favorite books list. In addition, she is one of three recipients of UBCO’s 2024 Researcher of the Year award. She has also written two other award-winning books, academic articles, and chapters, and contributes to media outlets such as CBC, The Globe and Mail, and The Conversation. Previously, she was a professor and Canada Research Chair in Global Governance and Civil Society at the University of Toronto.
