Why volunteer as an Alumni Personal Profile Reader?
Alumni Personal Profile Readers (formerly known as Broad-Based Admissions Alumni Readers) play a vital role in helping to shape the community of students and future alumni of the University of British Columbia (UBC).
For this role, we are seeking alumni volunteers who are passionate about UBC, interested in learning more about prospective students, and committed to thoroughly reviewing applications with accuracy, consistency and free from bias.
Alumni of all UBC faculties and schools are welcome to apply! Volunteering as an Alumni Personal Profile Reader is a highly independent role which requires confidentiality, tech savvy, and a significant time commitment. Prior to expressing interest, please review the role description below:
Alumni volunteers must NOT be in any situation that is, or could be perceived as, a conflict of interest with the role of reading and scoring personal profiles, including:
- an applicant to an undergraduate program at UBC;
- a parent, relative or guardian of a current applicant to an undergraduate program at UBC;
- a counsellor, advisor, educational agent/consultant, teacher, tutor, principal, coach or sports coach of a current applicant to an undergraduate program at UBC; or
- an employee and/or volunteer of another post-secondary institution
Please note: This volunteer role must be completed from Canada or the United States.

Background to Alumni Personal Profile Readers
Knowing more about prospective students with a personal profile in the UBC application process helps identify those who will flourish at UBC not only because of high grades but also because of the experiences and ambition they bring with them.
Formerly known as Broad Based Admissions Alumni Readers, Alumni Personal Profile Readers support UBC’s strategic goal of increasing representation of underrepresented and/or marginalized communities at UBC by assessing students holistically.
