Performers
Batty Banks, BSc(Nat Res Cons)’20 (she/her/hers)
Batty Banks is the unapologetic, unhindered, and unhinged drag tornado you never knew you needed. Daylighting as an animal rights advocate, vegan, and queer ecologist, this drag queen attempts to blend the worlds of wildlife, science, and fashion to create unique experiences where people can learn and let loose. This queen continues to slide, slip stunt, and uno reverse flip across stages all over the country, and she is excited to bring her chaos to a stage near you. This powerhouse Brazilian and Jamaican drag artist is always ready to put on a show, so buckle up for the wild ride that is Batty Banks.
DJ CHIP$, BSN’17 (she/her/hers)
DJ CHIP$ is a Canadian-born Filipina who is a nurse by day and DJ by night. She has gained several residencies and exponentially expanded her music (top 40s, country, dance, reggae, pop, bhangra, and more) by frequently playing at popular events, clubs, cafes, hotels, and restaurants around the Lower Mainland. Playing for Sephora’s 100th store celebration, Vancouver’s top-rated event producers like MRG, Blackout Comedy at the 2022 to 2024 Just for Laugh’s Festival, and several DowntownVan and Cadillac Fairview events are some her favourite and notable gigs she has DJed at! She has also opened for Dirty Loops and Down with Webster at the Commodore!
Mikey Jose, BSc’20 (he/him/his)
If someone could live in the soulful intersection of R&B, gospel, and pop, that’s likely where Mikey Jose would make his home. In fact, it is the space between genres, fields, and environments where he has found comfort. His church-influenced, science-immersed, art-filled, culturally-overlapping background as a PhD Neuroscience candidate by day, Filipino-Canadian independent artist by night, has provided him with a unique perspective on the world, informing his mantra: music is medicine.
Drawing influence from vocal heavy-hitters like Stevie Wonder, Allen Stone, Jazmine Sullivan, and Lucky Daye, Mikey Jose has crafted his own sonic signature featuring intentional melodies and lyrics that reflect the unique complexities of existing in the 21st century. His pen has touched songs that have streamed more than 8 million times over his short tenure releasing music.
